The world’s ‘oldest boy band’ makes a welcome return

A CHART-topping Welsh choir makes a welcome return to the New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme this weekend, fresh from recording a charity single with TV legend Rolf Harris.

Two Little Boys has become more like Two Little Boyos this Christmas after The Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir teamed up with Rolf to re-record his 1960s chart-topper.

The former Christmas number one has been remade to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The platinum-selling choir will make a welcome return to the New Vic tomorrow – minus the Aussie celebrity – for a sell-out festive concert.

The collaboration concludes another 12 months in the limelight for the choir from North Wales, which earlier this year beat the likes of Supergrass and The Charlatans to win the BBC Culture Show’s Busking Challenge.

In 2007 the choir, dubbed the world’s oldest boy band, caused a sensation when they released a saucy WI-style calendar. The charity calendar, showing off 12 choir members’ ‘Welsh barebits’, became an instant best-seller when it flew off the shelves last Christmas.

The Fron shot to fame after being ‘discovered’ by former manager of pop group Blue, Daniel Glatman, at a wedding. Their debut album Voices of the Valley became the fastest-selling classical album ever, receiving nominations for The Classical BRIT Awards both in 2007 and 2008.

Hailing from the tiny Welsh town of Froncysyllte in the Vale of Llangollen, the choir has toured extensively and triumphed at major competitions.
