AN evening of concert glitz and glamour is on offer at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall this New Year’s Eve.
Music lovers will receive a red carpet welcome at 6.30pm and be treated to a pre-concert foyer entertainment from jugglers, The Natural Theatre Company and Dr Butler’s Hatstand Medicine Band.
The concert programme starts at 8pm and combines musical theatre, humour, razzmatazz and celebration, as well as more reflective and nostalgic music.
Well-known tunes by classical opera composers such as Mozart, Rossini and Offenbach will get the evening off to a fizzing start.
These will be followed by romantic classics from the 1930s reminiscent of cabaret.
A finale of Gershwin hits including the gorgeous Someone To Watch Over Me, and the traditional Auld Lang Syne sing-a-long to finish off will ensure 2008 ends on a high note.
Robert Ziegler is the conductor for the night and he will be joined by highly acclaimed soprano Frances Bourne.
The show takes place on Wednesday, December 31, from 8-11pm.
Pre-concert entertainment starts at 6.30pm, but meals in the restaurant are available from 5.30pm.
