Fairport Convention head to the Brindley

AWARD-WINNING folk favourites Fairport Convention are heading to The Brindley in the New Year. The band, with the current line-up of Simon Nicol (guitar, vocal), Dave Pegg (bass, backing vocal), Chris Leslie (fiddle, mandolin, vocal), Ric Sanders (violin), and Gerry Conway (drums), will play at the Runcorn venue on February 10.

Fairport Convention were originally formed in 1967 and their iconic status was confirmed in 2002 when they were presented with the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Their seminal album Liege and Lief was also voted Best Folk Album Ever by the station’s listeners.

Fairport Convention have attracted huge critical acclaim and delighted audiences for over four decades, not least on its annual winter tours and at their world-famous music festival at Cropredy.

Today, Fairport Convention's greatest strength is still live performance and this concert will present an exciting mix of the old and new.

Longstanding Fairport favourites such as Matty Groves will share the bill with new songs from the band's most recent albums.

They will be supported by comedian Phil Cool who will be showing his other side as a great singer/songwriter, accompanied by Ken Nicol.

The show starts at 8pm and tickets costing £16.50 are on sale now. To book call 0151 907 8360 or visit www.thebrindley.org.uk
