Al Murray: His gaff, his rules

TIMES may be hard for the licensed trade, but the fortunes of Al Murray’s Pub Landlord are very much on the up.

Murray’s most famous comic creation – notorious for his mantra “Pint for the fella and a white wine or fruit-based drink for the lady” – is heading to the ECHO Arena in May next year.

The date is part of a nationwide tour which has seen the popular comic add an extra 35,000 tickets due to massive demand.

Murray, a close friend of fellow comedian Harry Hill, found fame after winning the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1999.

A show spokesman said: “In a non-stop couple of years, The Pub Landlord has not only recorded three series of the British Comedy Award-winning Al Murray’s Happy Hour, but also headlined Live At The Apollo.

“He has recorded his British Comedy Award-nominated live show, And Another Thing, at the London Palladium for DVD, hosted a second Audience With for ITV1, and brought his unique common sense reasoning to the literary world for the first time with the best-selling The Pub Landlord’s Book of British Common Sense.Š

“In the meantime, Murray has written and recorded Al Murray’s Multiple Personality Disorder, a brand new character-led sketch series for ITV1, set to air in early 2009.”

Al Murray’s Pub Landlord comes to the ECHO Arena on May 3.

Tickets, £25, are on sale now and can be booked on 0844 8000 400 or at the www. accliverpool.com website.
