ON THE night before Christmas, what more could an actor wish for than to be working in a theatre close to their home?
This wish is granted for the delighted cast of The Night Before Christmas, who are all local to Manchester and will be performing at The Lowry in Salford Quays from December 27–January 4.
The latest production from Big Wooden Horse Theatre Company stars Urmston’s Catherine Kinsella as Emily, a little girl who waits excitedly for Christmas morning.
Making up the company are Bolton actors Jackie Knowles, playing Eddie the Mouse, and Lane Paul Stewart who plays the toys that come to life, making this Christmas Eve magical.
On the night before Christmas, Emily stares out of the window, hugs her teddy and waits excitedly for the morning.
In the corner a little mouse called Eddie can’t understand why only humans are allowed to celebrate and get presents, so sets off in search of Father Christmas to find out for himself.
Along the way he dodges the family cat, gets directions from a cowardly toy soldier and is given some unexpected advice from the magical fairy on top of the tree.
Will Eddie get an answer? Will Emily get her wish? And what is that funny-shaped present sitting under the tree?
Created by the producers of the hit show Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! with Brighton Dome, The Night Before Christmas is suitable for families and children aged 3-7 and perfect for groups as a Christmas treat.
Writer Adam Bampton-Smith said: “It has been great to be able to write a new show all about what a wonderful time Christmas can be.
“The story is about Eddie the Mouse’s adventure but is also about friendship, sharing and the real spirit of Christmas. The show is aimed at families with children 3-7 years old who are too young to sit through a full length pantomime.
“The show features original music, some audience participation and a wonderful surprise for everyone at the end.”
