Artistic pupils create gold standard

CREATIVE children at Kingsley St John’s Primary School celebrated their gold Artsmark Award at an open evening.

Pupils, parents, teachers and Kingsley artists attended the night to celebrate the award, which recognises the school’s commitment to developing art, dance, drama and music.

Senior teacher and arts co-ordinator Sara Roberts said: “I am extremely proud of the children. They have put a lot of hard work into it and I think the award has been justified by the quality of work that was on show that evening.”

The Artsmark scheme is open to all schools in England and the gold award is the highest level of achievement a school can gain.

Headteacher Ann Griffiths said: “We are immensely proud to receive the top award as it provides an independent benchmark against exacting national standards on the quality of work in the school.

“I wish to pay tribute to the teaching staff. It is their hard work and dedication which has led to this successful outcome.”

Pieces by Kingsley-based professional artists Tony Evans, Lucy Geldenhuys and Ellen Lewis were auctioned off on the night to raise money for the school.
