THE Lowry in Salford Quays are welcoming award-winning dance this October in the shape of Hofesh Shechter on October 9-10 and ballet’s dynamic duo Ballet Boyz with their greatest hits on October 16-17.
Widely acknowledged as dance’s next big thing, Hofesh Shechter presents his two newest works, Uprising and In Your Rooms, which have gone down a storm with critics and audiences alike.
The work is both political and deeply personal, intensely physical and breathtaking. The vibrant, urban edge to Hofesh’s work made him perfect to choreograph the opening dance sequence for the second series of Channel 4’s Skins.
His mastery of percussive rhythm and unison fed his movement for Marianne Elliot’s multi-award winning production of St Joan for the National Theatre.
Hofesh came to the UK as a drummer in a rock band and is a concert-trained percussionist, studying in Tel-Aviv and later in Paris. He began experimenting and developing his own music while performing in dance projects in Europe. He has composed powerful soundtracks for both pieces, collaborating with string player Nell Catchpole from The Gogmagogs on the score for In Your Rooms.
Ballet Boyz Michael Nunn and William Trevitt are returning to The Lowry stage and bringing some of their favourite works along for the ride.
Instantly recognisable with their trademark humour and innovative use of film, this dynamic duo is renowned for new commissions and collaborating with some of the best artists out there.
This show sees a revival of some of their most treasured pieces; works that have won critical acclaim or resonated with audiences, or even pieces that they feel they’re just not done with yet.
Yumba vs Nonino is a true tango triumph, created by the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing’s Mr Nasty, Craig Revel Horwood. Linked with specially filmed footage of the rehearsal process and irreverent observations from the boys themselves, the show is an overview of the boys exploits to date and promises to be a smash hit!
Tickets for both of these shows can be obtained from the box office on 0870 787 5793 or by visitng www.thelowry.com.
