Wacky rhubarb race will aid hospice

A STICK of rhubarb has inspired a race with a difference.

The Wacky Rhubarb Race, this Sunday, July 27 at the Port Sunlight Village Festival, is the brainchild of Andrew Pimbey, founder of Wirral Food and Drink Festival, which takes place on Sunday, August 24, and Monday, August 25.

“It struck me it would be fun to have a wheelbarrow race and raise some money for the festival and Claire House Hospice,” he said.

So he created the idea of the Wacky Rhubarb Race in which teams of two will have to do a lap of the course, opposite the Bridge Inn, swapping places halfway through and tackling a couple of obstacles on the way just to add to the fun.

They must carry rhubarb in some form throughout the race, whether it is in a stick or even a dish of crumble.

Entry costs £10, which goes to help run the Wirral Food and Drink Festival, a community organisation run by volunteers, andŠ entrantsŠalso need to raise a minimum of £40 sponsorship money, which will go to Claire House Hospice.
