Theatres to end culture year in style

THE Everyman and Playhouse theatres in Liverpool complete their culture year celebrations on a high with six Made In Liverpool productions.

They include the co-production with Headlong Theatre of King Lear starring Pete Postlethwaite. Š

There are also two new commissions by Liverpool writers with Eric’s, a new musical by Mark Davies Markham, and Proper Clever, a new play for young people by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.Š

For Christmas at the Playhouse, audiences can enjoy the regional première of Tony award-winning West End comedy hit Boeing Boeing.Š

And no year is complete without the rock and roll panto, which this year is Mother Goose at the Everyman.

There are also productions and events for children and young people.Š

At the Playhouse in October renowned Liverpool writer Frank Cottrell-Boyce (Millions, 24 Hour Party People and Cosmic) extends his highly successful talents from books and films for young people to his first stage play, Proper Clever, about the school lives of teenagers.Š

At the Everyman, following the success of last year’s Julius Caesar, 40 members of the Everyman and Playhouse Youth Theatre will present a musical adventure entitled Monkey!

Roger McGough returns to the Playhouse with Slapstick a new collection of funny verses for 10 year olds.Š

Watershed Theatre (Midnight, The Suitcase Kid, Charlotte’s Web) bring the first stage version of Francesca Simon’s Horrid Henry in a new adaptation by John Godber.

Northern Broadsides return with Dario Fo’s brilliant exposé of police corruption The Accidental Death of An Anarchist in a new adaptation by Deborah McAndrew.Š

At the Playhouse in November, Liverpool theatre company Cut to the Chase present Blood Wedding, a Ted Hughes adaptation of Frederico Garcia Lorca’s classic masterpiece about a tragic love triangle.

For 2009, the Royal Shakespeare Company returns to the Liverpool Playhouse with a new production of Othello, directed by Kathryn Hunter (Theatre de Complicité).
