VIPS will gather today (Friday) at The Castle, Chester to celebrate the centenary of the Territorial Army in the city.
Top military and civil guests, local dignitaries, serving members of the counties territorial units and veterans will join the public to watch and listen to a sunset performance of Beating Retreat by the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers on the Castle Square at 7pm.
Guests including the mayors of Cheshire and representatives of the territorial units which take part in the act of Remembrance will then attend a military dinner at the Town Hall.
They will be accompanied by music from the Band of the Corps of Royal Engineers.Š
Guest of honour, the Duke of Westminster, will deliver a speech on the history and future of the Territorial Army before guests assemble for a rooftop fireworks display launched from Chester Cathedral.
Lieutenant Colonel Seán Harris, Commanding Officer, 75 Engineer Regiment and Commander of Cheshire Garrison said: “We are delighted to be joining the Lord Mayor of Chester, the Lord Lieutenant and the Duke of Westminster in organising this to celebrate 100 years of the TA.
“We hope the Cheshire public will enjoy this military spectacle.”
