Choral masterpieces at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall

THE celebrated Choir of King’s College Cambridge and The Academy of Ancient Music return to The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester today (Friday, May 16) at 7.30pm for a programme of choral masterpieces.

The long term collaborators will be conducted by King’s director of music, Stephen Cleobury, in a choral feast which includes works by three close contemporaries Handel, Bach and Vivaldi and, from a generation earlier, Purcell.

The concert will open in majestic style with Handel’s coronation anthem Zadok The Priest, followed by the jubilant Bach motet Lobet den Hern.Š

Handel’s Ode to the Birthday of Queen Anne, which King’s and The Academy recorded for EMI Classics in 2006, was written for George II.

Tickets for the concert, which is part of the hall’s International Concerts Series, cost from £11 to £35 and can be booked via the box office on 0161 907 9000 or via the website www.bridgewater-hall.co.uk
