Groundhogs to play live at Runcorn’s Brindley

ICONIC blues and prog rock band The Groundhogs, whose sound is characterised by improvised screaming guitar solos, are coming to The Brindley in Runcorn.

Frontman Tony ‘TS’ McPhee has played, toured and recorded with many of the blues giants including Memphis Slim, Jimmy Reed, Canned Heat, Strawbs, Jefferson Airplane, the Rolling Stones and John Lee Hooker who also recorded the album Hooker & The Hogs with the band.

McPhee’s talent as a guitarist has made him sought after in the business, even refusing offers to join the bands of Chris Barber, Alexis Korner and to replace Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - preferring to go his own way.

Throughout the early 70s, The Groundhogs produced massive selling rock albums including Thank Christ For The Bomb, Split and Who Will Save The World.

The band appeared on Top of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test.

The Groundhogs come to The Brindley on Saturday, May 31. Tickets are priced £12, £10 concessions. To book seats contact the box office on 0151 907 8360 or log on to www.thebrindley.org.uk
