Having achieved record-breaking audience attendances in London during its autumn tour 2007, Rambert Dance Company embarks on the second leg of its World View Tour with a visit to Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold.
The company will perform its newest work, Scribblings, by American choreographer Doug Varone, L’eveil by Melanie Teall, Swansong by Christopher Bruce and Anatomica #3 by André Gingras.
Described as a ‘craftsman’ of irresistible intensity, Doug Varone, artistic director of Doug Varone and Dancers, uses his extraordinary musical instincts to present Scribblings, his first commission for Rambert. Inspired by composer John Adams’ flamboyant Chamber Symphony, Varone draws on the comic exaggeration and energy in the music to create a daring and complex work set in an off-kilter world with touches of urgency and humour.
Created by dancer/choreographer Melanie Teall, L’eveil is an abstract work for six women. The piece also features Melanie Marshall, who sings live the Kurt Weill classic, Je ne t’aime pas and Leslie Bricusse’s Feeling Good.
The revival of Christopher Bruce’s critically acclaimed Swansong weaves a poignant, affecting, and at times surprisingly humorous tale of human conflict. Exploring themes of torture and interrogation, Bruce’s modern masterpiece remains as relevant and topical today as it did 21 years ago.
Surprising and exuberant, Rambert performs Anatomica #3, by Canadian choreographer André Gingras. Renowned for his breakneck, athletic movement, Gingras explores the idea of the human body as an exhibition site in this high energy work for a large cast.
Anatomica #3 features an original score from one of the most intriguing young composers in the UK, Joseph Hyde, and designs from former Rambert dancer, Fabrice Serafino.
Rambert Dance Company can be seen at Clwyd Theatr Cymru from April 8-11. Ring the box office on 0845 330 3565 or visit www.clwyd-theatr-cymru.co.uk
