Forget the X Factor winner, it's Cheryl's crowning glory that's grabbed all the headlines this year.

From flowing extensions, to one-shoulder plait, to shorter tousled waves, the judge's hair has been hot gossip week after week, heightened by her starring role in the "because we're worth it" L'Oreal Elvive ad.

Savvy beauty companies know that putting a celebrity behind the brand is a sure-fire way to get products flying off the shelves faster than a Joe McElderry Christmas single.

Cate Blanchett's porcelain complexion promotes skincare for SK-II , Myleene Klass swishes her locks for Pantene and Kate Moss works her famous supermodel pout for Rimmel make-up.

But what about the products that celebrities aren't paid to promote? The beauty booty that they hope to find in their stocking on Christmas morning to use day-in, day-out throughout 2010?
