CELEBRATIONS were in the air as Queen's Park High School students collected their GCSE results.
150 15 and 16-year-olds achieved excellent results and even managed to out perform the very good results the school achieved last year.
The percentage of students achieving 5 A*-C including English and Maths was the school’s best ever results and surpassed the challenging target set by the governors.
Andrew Firman, headteacher, said: "As I start my retirement after 20 years of headship at Queen’s Park I am delighted with these results.
"They show yet another increase in the percentage of students who have achieved 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C. With the support of parents and carers at home, students and teachers have made a tremendous effort to gain these outstanding results.
"Well done to all those students who achieved high numbers of A* and A grades and 5 or more grades at A* - C. Congratulations also to students in the year group with a variety of special educational needs worked exceptionally hard to overcome their learning difficulties and achieved several GCSEs each.
He added: "I am immensely proud of our students, many of whom will be returning to school next month to start on new courses in our sixth form. They are a credit to themselves and their families."
A number of students achieved exceptional results and gained a string of high grades including the core subjects of English, maths and science.
These included:
Emma Clark who gained an outstanding 10 grade A*s. Other top performers included Lucy Adam (5A*, 5As and 2Bs), Ozan Fauzan (3A*s, 6As and 1B), William Gerrard (1A*, 6As and 4Bs), James Gibson (5A*s ,6As and 1B), Tommy Hall (1A*, 7As and 1B), Rowan Metcalfe (5A*s, 4As and 2Bs), Evie Oliver (2A*s, 6As and 2Bs), Jessica Ramsdale (3A*s, 7As and 2Bs), Joy Roberts (5A*s and 5As) and Samantha Young (5A*s and 7As)
Clare Buckle, Year 11 learning manager added: ‘It has been a pleasure to work with this year group and I am very proud of the results our students have achieved. They have worked very hard in conjunction with their teachers to achieve these results.
"Many students took advantage of extra support from mentors and the revision programmes that we offered outside school hours and in structured coaching sessions in the lead up to the exams."
"This has paid real dividends for them."
