At Blacon High School 72% of students achieved five A*-C grades, up 20% on 2008.

The school also recorded an increase in the number of pupils gaining five A*-C grades including English and mathematics, up 3% to 26%.

Headteacher Mrs Brett said: "Once again we are very proud of our year-on-year improvements and we are really pleased for our students.

"A lot of hard work has gone into securing this progress – sincere thanks go to students, staff, parents and governors for all their efforts and support.

"Last year we were highest in Cheshire in terms of CVA, and in the top 5% of all schools nationally.

"CVA is a measure of the progress our students make during their time at Blacon High School.

"I am certain we will be in a very good position this year too."

Deputy head Dean Postlethwaite said: "Our school places a high emphasis on achievement and success and we work hard to ensure every single student is given the guidance and intervention that they need to do their very best."
