AN innovative new learning programme, designed for young people who have completed AS levels but may be looking for a change from 6th form, is being offered by West Cheshire College from September.
The fast-track BTEC Certificate can be completed in a year and has the potential to help students top up UCAS points so they can gain entry to university. Fast-tracks are available in sports, art and design and health and social care.
Assistant Principal Sally Cracknell said: “This programme has been developed following discussions with young people who didn’t want to continue in the 6th form after finishing AS levels but still wanted a route to university.
“The fast-track BTEC Certificate is an intensive year at the College which provides active hands-on learning and practical experience and can help learners achieve up to 240 UCAS points so they can gain entry to university.”
Ideal candidates for the programme are those with GCSEs in maths and English plus an AS Level in a related subject – e.g. sports, PE, sports science, art and design, health and social care, sociology or psychology.
Sally Cracknell said: “While this is an innovative new way to help people achieve the qualifications they need to go to university, it is intensive and may not suit everyone so anyone interested in the programme must contact the College for an appointment.
“We will arrange an in-depth guidance interview for all potential fast-track students to ensure it is the right route for them.”
