Lanterns to decorate the River Dee

West Cheshire College

LANTERNS designed and created by West Cheshire College art students are set to decorate the banks of the River Dee as part of the Chester Performs initiative.

The 18 paper lanterns, some of which are more than 1.5m high, were created as part of a college project looking at architecture by 40 First Diploma Art and Design students.

This Friday (December 12) the glowing lanterns will decorate the banks of the Dee at the Groves where Chester Performs closing ceremony includes a floating lantern ceremony based on the Thai ceremony of Loy Krathang.

Tutor Louise Condon said: “This was great project for the students to get involved in. We studied the architecture of Chester and then created designs based on ideas prompted by the building styles.

“Our creations will be a great complement to the hundreds of smaller lanterns floating down the river.”
