Nov 7 2008 From West Cheshire College
WEST Cheshire College is set to lead the way during the inaugural Colleges Week – a national celebration to mark the success of Further Education Colleges.
Colleges Week takes place from November 10 to 14 to mark the key role colleges play in unlocking talent in communities, helping people of all ages reach their potential and transforming the lives of learners.
Activities planned by West Cheshire College, which has campuses in Capenhurst, Chester and Ellesmere Port, include:
Principal Sara Mogel said: “Colleges play a vital role in building and strengthening communities by providing the learning needed to support individuals, businesses and the local economy.
“As a vocational College we provide courses covering many subjects and disciplines, in fact every year the College delivers learning to more than 20,000 people at its three campuses, in work places and at community venues.
“West Cheshire College continues to go from strength to strength with record numbers of enrolments and excellent attainment rates.
“We are also very proud of the fact that 86% of our Level 3 students go on to university as this shows that the vocational route can offer the same opportunities for progression as the more widely known academic route.
“We’re delighted to be part of Colleges Week as it allows us to demonstrate that learning should be, and can be, accessible to everyone.”
Colleges Week is being co-ordinated by the Association of Colleges, the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) and the Learning and Skills Council. For more information go to www.collegesweek.org.
