Burnage 2nds 21 Chester 2nds 38

A MUCH-CHANGED Chester 2nds overcame a powerful Burnage side on their synthetic 3G pitch.

The Burnage players and coaching staff all must have been left wondering how they did not come away with a win after having Chester on the ropes for most of the game.

The visitors were indebted to the influence of their skilful Fijian players, who are based at Dale Barracks.

There were tries for Whise Navunidakua, Vinaya Tubuna, Aben Caku and Leo Tuliva. Nick Jones also crossed the whitewash, with the rest of Chester’s points coming from the boot of fly-half Lloyd Griffiths.

Chester, who are fourth in the Bateman Premier League, host Penrith 2nds on Saturday (2.15pm).

In the University of Salford League, Christleton lost their latest outing in Division Four West.

They went down 24-7 at home to Warrington 3rds on Saturday and face another home assignment this Saturday – against the University of Liverpool Vets.

Helsby are celebrating after chalking up their long-awaited first win of the South Lancs/Cheshire Three season. They overcame fellow strugglers Congleton 12-7, coming back from 7-0 down at half time.

Man of the match Lyndon English and Martin McGuire scored Helsby’s two tries, Kev Ryder kicking one conversion.
