Chester 32 West Hartlepool 0
IT took Chester just 40 minutes to blow away West Hartlepool and register their seventh win from seven matches in National League Three North.
If ever there was a game of two halves then this was it as Chester raced into a 32-0 lead in the first period, but failed to add to their tally after the restart.
The hosts took just seven minutes to open their account, Lloyd Hayes swapping passes with Sean Green before passing to centre partner Tom Seddon for the day’s opening score.
Liam McGovern converted, then stretched his side’s lead to 10-0 with a well-struck penalty from 35 metres.
Chester then really clicked into gear and kept the large crowd enthralled with some excellent rugby.
Josh Leach and the tireless Gaz Martin set up second row Ross White for the game’s second try.
McGovern, with his probing kicks and darting runs, was becoming increasingly influential and he supplied skipper Andy Moore for another score before kicking the extras.
From the kick-off, West carried the ball into the Chester half but big second row Llion Jones was not in the mood to let them carry it far and he ripped it cleanly from his opposite number. He broke free and found Will Bown, who barreled his way clear before allowing Leach to go over for a 27-0 lead.
Chester’s lead was extended to 32-0 on the stroke of half time when a huge up and under from McGovern caused disarray in the West defence and prop Ben Williams took full advantage, running for the line. He unselfishly found Martin in support and he fed flying wing Tom Evans, who completed the scoring with a whole 40 minutes of the game remaining.
Chester, who are three points clear at the top, are away to Sandal this Saturday (3pm).
