England glory for Ben

RUGBY ace Ben Coulbeck scored on his England debut in New York.

The 25-year-old Chronicle journalist touched down in the second half of a 27-3 victory over United States by England Counties, which is open to players below Premiership level.

Fullback Ben was also in the starting line-up for Monday’s second tour match against the USA, which England won 31-16. He is in the squad for today’s final game of the tour against a Canada Select XV in Chatham-Kent, Ontario.

Ben said: “I don’t know whether I’ll keep my place for that match or whether they will try someone else at 15. I know I have just got to give my best and that is what I’ll do.

“It is a fantastic experience and going great.”

Ben, of Northwich, combines working as a sports sub-editor at The Chronicle’s Commonhall Street offices with playing for Manchester and Cheshire.
