ST Saviour’s sealed a 4-2 win to close the gap on the two leading teams in the Chester League’s Rileys Division.
The Saints travelled to Cons (Ellesmere Port) and their victory moved them closer to high-flying Conservative A and Q Bar, whose match was postponed.
Colin Jones opened up for Cons with a good win over Paul Ellis. Kevin Maxwell levelled the score by beating Sean Steadman, but Dave Sharpe comfortably overcame George Brady to put the home side in front again.
But Saints roared back with wins from Scott Wilkie, Alex Ferguson and Steve Holmes.
Christleton B entertained the team that knocked them out of the Challenge Trophy the previous week, Broughton Wings, and gained revenge with a 4-2 success in the league.
Christleton’s Stuart Hardman defeated Mike Quinn but Gareth Allen replied with a 67 break against Andy Woods. Wayne Amey and newcomer Charlie Deery made it 3-1 to Christleton and it became 4-1 when Tony Cooke overcame the experienced Pat Haycock in a tight frame.
Christleton’s Sean Woodworth lost to Wings’ Jack Bradford in the final frame.
Chester Bus came from 2-0 down to beat visiting Upton RBL A 4-2.
John Over Jnr and Glen Sheil got Upton off to the perfect start, but the Busmen hit back through Mike Griffiths (104-9), Shane Futcher, Chris Read and Mike Jones.
Another stirring fightback saw United Services come back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Christleton A.
Geoff Brassington, Paul Lewis (38 break) and Anthoy Courtney were the heroes for Services.
In the Olympic Trophies Division, Cheshire County Offices had a convincing 5-1 victory over Waverton.
Mark Lloyd, Kevin Rollings, John Cunningham, Keith Cadman and Colin Hargreaves were the winners.
Conservative C entertained leaders Q Bar B and lost 5-1, while Conservative B defeated Utd Services B 5-1.
