Angling: Simon Loyley stars for Chester Tackle Locker in Hampton Springs Fishery Team Challenge

IMPRESSIVE individual performances ensured Chester Tackle Locker’s Red team finished second in Sunday’s opening Hampton Springs Fishery Team Challenge match.

A combined weight of 47lb 3oz put the Red men on to the podium with Simon Loyley, of Hoole, taking their best catch with 19lb of carp and silvers on Meadow using peg nine.

Christleton’s Andy Spencer followed up with 18lb 8oz from peg 10 on Long Island.

A fine 16lb of roach fell to caster on Alice Springs for Tackle Locker’s Julian Tatton in the Saturday Silvers match at Hampton Springs.

The Waverton ace claimed second spot with a good bag of skimmers weighing 18lb 4oz that fell to pellet.

Third and fourth positions were also claimed by Tackle Locker anglers, with Stuart Davies, of Handbridge, just pipping Loyley by a couple of ounces for third. Davies followed Tatton’s lead, using caster for roach, for a total weight of 12lb 8oz, with Loyley one place behind with 12lb 8oz of skimmers.

Keith Bean tasted success in Saturday’s open match at Hampton Springs.

In difficult conditions, Bean, of Higher Kinnerton, netted four carp worth 36lb 8oz on corn from peg 28 on Rock Pool for victory.

Tackle Locker members Tatton and Wendy Locker finished third and fourth respectively in the Thursday Rovers match at Hampton Springs Fishery.

Tatton lured 8lb 12oz of roach and perch from peg 43, with Locker, of Hoole, tempting 8lb 8oz of roach with maggot on the pole from peg 14 on Long Island.

Airbus Coarse Angling Section staged the first of its 12 Club League matches at Weston Pools on Saturday.

Top rod on the Stretton Pool was Bruce Wilcocks with 20lb 11oz of F1s and carp on pellet. Dave Jones was second with 18lb 11oz of similar fish, also on pellet.

The Canal Pool offered a little less sport for anglers with Blacon’s Mark Mealing third with 4lb 12oz of small carp. Dave Ward needed just 15lb 11oz of carp for top spot with the in-form Richie Parry second with 15lb 6oz of carp using dead maggot on the pole.
