A MULTI-TALENTED Chester youngster swam, shot and ran her way to a stunning second-placed finish at the British Modern Triathlon Championships.
Naomi Craig, from Clutton, won a silver medal in her age category after a performance to remember at the Midlands event.
The 12-year-old started the day well with the fastest swim at the Wolverhampton Central Swimming Pool, giving her an early point’s lead.
Next up came the 10m air pistol shooting. With 10 shots at her disposal, Naomi was shooting well, scoring eights and nines out of 10, until she let one shot slip into the five – a slip which ultimately cost her the gold.
Last of all was the 1,000m run, held on the 400m track at the Aldersley Stadium. Naomi produced a fantastic effort, finishing second and 10 seconds faster than she had done in qualifying.
It was not enough, though, to take overall victory, although she could take great consolation from the fact that she helped the West Midlands Modern Pentathlon Club to the Youth D female team prize.
Naomi is a pupil at Ellesmere College, where she swims with the Ellesmere College Titans and is coached at the school’s indoor shooting range.
