Hockey: Table-topping Deeside Ramblers make it four wins from four

LIFE in the National League seems to agree with Deeside Ramblers, who made it four wins out of four in Conference North on Saturday.

The in-form Ramblers won 3-1 at Doncaster despite missing the injured Ibrar Latif.

James Warburton opened the scoring from open play after just three minutes but the South Yorkshire outfit came back, Owen Peake slotting home a penalty corner on 13.

But this season threatens to be defined by one man, Ali Ghazanfar.

He popped up in the 56th minute to bury a penalty corner – his speciality – before six minutes later notching his 11th goal of what is rapidly becoming a memorable campaign.

The Ramblers are at home to University of Durham on Sunday (2pm).

Deeside Ramblers 3rds maintained their 100% winning start to North West League Division Three on Saturday with a 2-1 home triumph over a Bolton side whose goalkeeper was inspired.

After Ed Lowe broke the deadlock with a delicate finish, the second half saw a quick exchange of goals but further Ramblers attacks were met with total resistance by the visiting stopper.

Deeside Ramblers 5ths lost 3-1 at home to Wrexham 2nds in Division Six South despite a thunderbolt of a strike from the returning Mark Goodyear.

Deeside Ramblers 7ths tasted their first Division 10 South defeat of the season as they fell 6-1 at home to Denbigh.

Young Tom Adam stood out for the Ramblers but it was Phil Brown who got their goal, using hockey’s new self-pass rule, which states at a free hit the player taking the hit can pass to themselves.

Deeside Beavers drew 1-1 at Southport Beavers.

Matthew Steventon was on target for the Ramblers while there were good performances from Emma Fulbeck and Rupert Ellis.
