GROSVENOR Rowing Club have made a memorable start to the season.
They were awarded the coveted Victor Lodorum prize at the 54th County of Chester Long Distance Sculls after storming to seven stunning successes.
The club’s Veterans E Quad, comprising of Mike Allwood, John McMahon, Paul Larby and Steve Walker, crossed the line ahead of their immediate competition with a lead of two minutes and 30 seconds.
Also sculling their way to victory were Tony Churchill and Tim Howe (Veterans C Double Sculls), Dawn Houghton (Veterans C Single Scull), Bill Downing (Veterans C Single Scull), Harvey Worden (Veterans B Single Scull), Caroline Ealey and Celia Ballard (Women’s Intermediate 3 Double Sculls) and Neal Potter and John Purdie (Novice Double Sculls).
Queen’s Park High School, fresh from being named the best junior team at the North of England Sprint Championships, were two-time winners.
Their girls coxless quad of Joey Roberts, Emma Clark, Leigh Horan and Lucy Adam won the WJ 17 category before James McDermott, Struan Fishburn, Joel Langmead and Yousef Khalifa, coxed by Rachel Tomkins, won the J14 coxed quad title.
