Oct 1 2009 Chester Chronicle
SUNDAY’S 54th County of Chester Long Distance Sculls, raced from Eccleston Ferry to Dee Lane in perfect conditions, proved to be one to remember for home crews.
In the largest entry recorded since the first race in 1955, Chester clubs powered to 17 wins from the 47 classes.
Seven of those successes came from Grosvenor Rowing Club as they claimed the coveted Victor Ludorum award.
The King’s School and Royal Chester Rowing Club finished second and third respectively in the quad sculls while newcomer, 17-year-old Becca Chin, produced an impressive double in winning the women’s junior school singles by 51 seconds after sculling in Royal Chester’s winning women’s intermediate quad scull.
Agecroft Rowing Club’s Craig Morgan’s five-year grip on the title was ended decisively by Graham Coleman of Nottingham & Union Rowing Club by 33 seconds.
Royal Chester Rowing Club is located off Dee Lane in Chester, the first clubhouse on your left. For more information contact captain Paul Richards on 07973 507515 or paul.william.richards@gmail.com or chairman Mike Palamarczuk on 079666 46407 or michal@palamarczuk.co.uk
