Angling: Catch to remember for Mike Flanagan

MIKE Flanagan caught a beauty in the Rivacre AC match at Larford Lakes Fishery. Following an all-out pellet attack on the Arena Pool, the Chester Tackle Locker ace, fishing at 10m in around 12ft of water, brought a superb 76lb 12oz of carp to net.

Chester’s Colin Shaw was top rod with 28lb 8oz of stockies, silvers and crucians in the open match at Hampton Springs Fishery. He made good use of pellet and corn on the tip from peg 42 of Long Island. Chester-based Rake ‘n’ Pikel team member Gary White was second with 24lb 4oz of small carp, also from Long Island.

Lee Lloyd was the winner of Saltney AC’s final match of the season at Dyffryn Maes Glas in Holywell with 29lb 8oz of fish on hard pellet at 16m. Cyril Knobbs, of Blacon, took four carp, roach and bream on caster for 18lb and second spot. Lloyd’s father, Derek, was third with 16lb 4oz of roach and bream.

An 8lb 8oz skimmers total was enough for Blacon’s John Wineyard to win the Peg One AC match at Tarvin Sands while Frodsham fly angler Stan Stringer landed a superb 15lb 5oz rainbow trout on a black gnat at Cheshire Fishing.

Broughton’s Ian Beales, with 8lb 13oz of skimmers and roach, and Upton’s Dave Blackwell, with 5lb 15oz of skimmers, were second and third respectively in the Airbus Coarse Angling Section on the Meadow Island stretch of the River Weaver.

In-form Tattenhall angler Simon Knibbs was second with 6lb 7oz in the Holywell AC match on their Tre-Mostyn Pool while Blacon’s Peter Hodge was third in the open match at Lingmere Fishery. Drawn on peg five of the Match Lake, Hodge used pellet to net 32lb 8oz of carp.
