Hockey: Chester remain in promotion hunt after win over Doncaster

PROMOTION is still firmly in Chester’s sights after they defeated Doncaster 5-2 on the road.

A Phil Roper hat-trick helped keep them on the path to the Northern Premier Division. Matt Hyden and Stuart Blain added the other Chester goals.

Chester 2nds crushed hosts Tameside 4-1.

Harvey Shaw scored from a penalty corner, Chris Bowles doubled the lead, then Gareth Thomas and Bart Ryan-Beswick finished matters off despite the fact they lost Phil Lynn to injury.

He took a heavy hit partway through the game and spent the remainder of the match hobbling on the sideline.

At home Chester 3rds ground out a 2-0 win over Tameside, Nathan Hodgson on target before Chris Ormandy calmly dispatched the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to wrap things up.

Chester 5ths beat Alderley Edge 5-0 while Chester Ladies lost 1-0 in their derby at Deeside Ramblers. Chester 2nds also lost, 6-3 to Sale. The 4ths fell 5-1 against Bowdon.

Deeside Ramblers men’s 3rds drew 3-3 with Liverpool Sefton.

Phil Winward, Phil Johnson and Ed Lowe scored for Ramblers.

Crewe cruised to a 4-1 over Deeside 7ths. Mike Verity struck Deeside’s consolation goal.
