Royals have a ball

ANOTHER successful year of rowing was celebrated when Royal Chester Rowing Club held its annual winter ball at the Cheshire View in Christleton.

After an excellent meal, members were encouraged by club chairman Mike Palamarczuk to bid in a fundraising auction, which raised hundreds of pounds for club equipment.

The final event of 2008 on the River Dee is the traditional Icicle Eights Race for Chester rowing clubs. Starting at Eccleston at 10am on Sunday, crews will race to a mass finish at Sandy Lane. This will be followed by the junior races over a short course, the winners taking home Christmas puddings.

The day will also see Chester rowing stalwart Keith Osborne launch his latest book, a short history of 170 years of Royal Chester Rowing Club.
