A SHOCKING weekend for Deeside Ramblers saw every side in the club lose, including the firsts who were defending a 100% unbeaten record.
Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against Bowdon in the Northern Premier Division saw them concede their first points of the season, but they remain top of the league.
Bowdon’s pace proved the undoing of Deeside as their constant movement made them difficult to play against.
Despite that Ghanzafar Ali scored twice and Ibrar Latif once as Deeside kept the game close.
Following an injury to Stuart Symms last week, Neil Pottinger played in goal and he kept Deeside within reach of their visitors, repelling every one of Bowdon’s penalty corners.
Skipper Geoff Price returned to the fold and performed admirably, as did the hard-running Ben Lamont. Deeside’s stamina outlasted their faster opponents’, but they ran out of time before they could take full advantage.
Deeside Ramblers 2nds were edged out 4-3 by derby rivals Chester 2nds. Del Millard Smith was Deeside’s most active, impressive and effective player, scoring twice and receiving a yellow card.
Steve Cheshire’s fourth team lost 3-1 to Bebington, Johnnie Roger scoring the only Deeside goal.
Deeside Ladies 2nds 2 Bowdon Ladies 3: Deeside Ladies 2nds were unlucky as they went down 3-2 against Bowdon on Saturday. Kate Burrows gave Deeside an early lead with a strike from a penalty corner.
This was soon followed by Bowdon’s equaliser, but Deeside fought back and Rebekah Andrew restored the lead after receiving a great pass from Gill Cutler.
Bowdon came back with two consecutive goals and then shut Deeside out for the entire second half.
Burrows was awarded player-of-the- match.
