Running: Hot Totty race home for victory
HOST club Tattenhall Runners made it a one-two in the women’s section of Tattenhall Tough Team Challenge race.
Tattenhall Totty, made up of Liz Crawshaw, Jo Marsden and Sara Atkinson, were first home in 68 minutes and 54 seconds, narrowly beating Tattenhall Chicks (Amanda Davies, Alison Smith and Marilyn Kitching) into second.
Wirral AC’s Scooby’s Heroes won the men’s section in 60:18.
Runners reaching the end of the 9.5-mile course, which mixes road and trail and features an infamous railway climb, were greeted by a bongo band. Only the slowest runner’s time in each team of three scored.
Tattenhall had 20 members competing in the Welsh Castles Relay, running the length of Wales from Caernarfon Castle to Cardiff Castle over a fun-packed weekend.
They ran alongside 57 teams with 1,200 runners picking up the baton at some point along the run. Marilyn Kitching starred again, providing Tattenhall’s only stage win from Dinas Mawddwy to Foel, with Ian Simpson also running well to finish eighth in his leg to Crossgates in mid-Wales.
Team captain Andy Blair ran the first leg from Caernarfon to Penygroes and many club newcomers also took part. Overall Tattenhall finished 47th.
Graham Innes and Rob Webster got their off road fix by taking part in the mixed terrain of the 10k Riverbank Run at Rhuddlan organised by Prestatyn Runners. Both showed continuing improvement with Graham clocking 44.30 in 35th place, with Rob behind in 47:21 and 47th position in windy conditions.
