Bowls: Red Lion quartet head finals charge

A QUARTET of Frodsham Red Lion players have sealed their passage to the Frodsham Merit finals.

The qualifiers were played at Kingsley Village Institute on Saturday.

Red Lion’s Ken Whitby, Barry Ellams, Brian Griffiths and Mark Nield made it through, along with D Hughes (Norton), C Jackson, B Shaw (both Grapes) and M Ellison (RWMC).

In the Frodsham and District League, Grapes A capitalised on rivals Red Lion A’s Division One game against Goshawk A being postponed.

The Runcorn outfit returned to the summit, Keith McMurtry and Bob Johnson both winning 21-11 in victory at Chetwode A.

Helsby B are back on top of Division Two after a home win over high-scoring Subscription A.

The last eight players in the Frank Edwardson Cup are: R Waring, M Melvin, D Pill (all Pavilions), M Ellison (RWMC), K Worrall (Helsby), B Hopley (Union Tavern), B Southerton (Manley) and E Ellis (Willow Brook).
