Hockey: King’s break into top 10 after run of victories

THE King’s School is riding on the crest of a hockey wave after three teams broke into the English Schools’ top 10.

Recent victories have propelled the under 14s, U15s and U16s boys teams into the nation’s top school teams.

The U14s and U16s have been successful in winning the Cheshire County Championship.

Both teams have since gone on to be North West champions and narrowly lost out in the Northern Championships.

The U15s won the EuroHockey Nations Legacy Championships at Belle Vue Hockey Centre in Manchester to cap a successful season for boys’ hockey at King’s and earn them a top 10 spot as well.

Master in charge of hockey, Russell Hornby, said: “These victories are well deserved.

“Hockey is going from strength to strength at The King’s School with many boys now representing county and regional sides.

“It has been a great year so far.”

The King’s Schools girls U15s just lost out in the final of the EuroHockey Nations Legacy Festival. Although they couldn’t quite grind out one last win, they could still be proud of their achievement.

Adrian Neeves, head of PE, said: “It has been a wonderful year for both girls and boys’ hockey at King’s.

“Players have worked hard both in school and out of school to achieve great success.”
