Swimming: City schools make waves at gala

THERE was a tremendous turnout for the Chester and District Primary Schools Gala, with 49 teams from 15 schools making a splash at the City Baths.

The teams, comprising four swimmers representing each school, were competing for The Chronicle trophies.

And while some of the children were well used to competitive swimming, many were making their debuts and they are all to be congratulated on taking part.

Delamere Primary won the small schools competition, a mixed event for boys and girls, with Shocklach Oviatt second and Barrow third.

The boys competition went to King’s A, who held off the challenge of second-placed Overleigh St Mary’s and Farndon in third.

In the girls section, Merton House carried off the top prize from King’s A and Queen’s.

Presentations were made by Peter Fisher, chairman of the City of Chester Swimming Club, who hosted the event.

Other schools taking part were: Newton, Waverton, Huntington, Kelsall, Thomas Wedge, St Werburgh’s and Guilden Sutton.
