Golf: Home comforts for Vicars Cross duo

MORE than 150 golfers descended on Vicars Cross Golf Club for Saturday’s Chester Festival.

The annual competition featured players from four clubs – Upton-by-Chester, Eaton, Chester and hosts Vicars Cross.

After a busy day on the fairways, Gary Thompson and Will Gallagher (Vicars Cross) emerged as the winning pair with a nett score of 64.

They triumphed on a card play-off from Upton’s Fred Hopley and James Lightfoot, with Vicars Cross pair Tom Doherty and Jeff Gifford third (65).

Prizes were handed out in the evening by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Chester, Brian and Raewyn Bailey.

Pairs achieving birdie twos were: 8th hole – B Newton and S Newton (Vicars Cross); 9th hole – G Duckers and D Woods (Upton); 10th hole – D Mackay and C Barker (Eaton); 13th hole – E Lee and M Foster (Chester); 18th hole – I Champion and B Sandwald (Eaton) and P Jones and J Spencer (Chester).
