Motorsport: Bike puts brakes on Howie’s points bid

HOWIE Mainwaring was denied a possible podium finish by brake problems and a fall from his bike at Brands Hatch.

The Frodsham flyer’s latest outing in the National Superstock Championship ended abruptly three laps from home when the brakes on his Suzuki GSXR 1000 locked up completely. Mainwaring, who had qualified in 12th, was within striking distance of third place when he began to experience problems with his brakes.

The 24-year-old was thrown from his bike when they eventually locked up completely – but escaped unhurt.

Mainwaring, who has failed to score points in the last two rounds, said: “I had some quite scary moments out there – the last thing you want are brakes that don’t work properly.

“Had it had not been for the problems with the brakes, I could possibly have come away with a podium finish.”
