Bowls: Ellams on form as Red stay top

A FULL house at home to Castle Park A kept Red Lion A (Barry Ellams 21-6) top of Frodsham and District Bowls League’s Division One.

Up to second, Tiger’s Head A (Graham Hodson 21-2) dropped just one chalk at home to Goshawk B.

Goshawk A (Rose Walker 21-7) lie fourth after home victory over Red Lion B. Helsby D saw off Pavilions B, while shaky Pavilions A (Andy Blakemore 21-6) overcame Chetwode A (John Nicholas 21-4).

Division Two leaders Helsby B were set back in a high-scoring defeat at Manley A (John Dickinson 21-9).

Norton Arms B climbed to second with away success at bottom club Castle Park B, while Subs A lost at Helsby A (Alan Hughes and David White both 21-6).

Pavilions D (Doug Pill 21-6) continue to top Division Three after their home defeat of Egerton B.

Kingsley A had six single-figure victories in defeat of visiting Willow Brook B, the best Tony Pickering (21-2).

Kingswood A led Division Four after home rule over Helsby C (Alf Hignett 21-2). Hazel Pear (Sylvia Martin 21-7) are second following home victory over Kingsley B (Ron Marshall 21-5).

Chetwode B (D Burrows 21-3) edged home against Halton RBL B (Martin Peers 21-3), while Union Tavern (Barry Hopley 21-6) squeezed a win over Manley B.

Entries for the Frodsham area qualifiers in the Cheshire Merit should reach Graham White (01928 723328) by this weekend.
