Chester-based Phil Hardman won Monday’s open match at Hampton Springs. Pegged on long island, he took a mixed bag of 93lbs 2oz. John Raby netted 66lbs, followed by Sam Kennedy (Deeside Tackle) with 51lbs of carp and silvers. Chester Tackle Locker’s Andy Spencer came a close fourth with 49lbs 4oz.

The Tuesday open match on canal bridge island was won by J Blears with 45lbs 8oz. K Lewis netted 29lbs for second place, followed by Dave Purvis with 21lbs.

Purvis repeated his success on Thursday with a great catch of 97lbs, which included 50lbs of tench on the meadow pool. His catch gave him first spot ahead of Ray Biddle (44lbs 14oz) and Bill Gibson (25lbs 4oz).

Mickle Trafford AC staged their monthly match last week and it proved to be a difficult day for all. The match was won by John Chamberlain with two rainbows totalling 5lbs 8oz, taken on a damsel fly nymph.

Alan Bell took second spot with a single fish of 2lbs 13oz, the heaviest single specimen caught on the day.

Cudmore Fishery delivered some good sport for competitors in the open matches over the weekend.

In total, 45 anglers took part in Saturday’s match, which was won by Charlie Mayers with a bag of 104lbs.

Chris Ellit took second place with 89lbs 12oz, followed by Danny Hallam (83lbs 6oz) and Dave Swain (79lbs).

Catches included carp up to 4lbs, tench and chub, most taken on pellet.

Six catches of more than 100lbs, all taken mainly to meat, made a bumper match at Sunday’s open match on new pools two-five. Gary Skerritt took top spot with a superb 157lbs 4oz on pool two. Pool three saw Jay Declouet net 146lbs 8oz for second placed, followed by Trevor Robinson on pool four with 127lbs 10oz. Ian Bates was fourth on pool three with 111lbs.
