ST SAVIOUR’S A staged a massive giant-killing in the final of the Chester and District Snooker League’s CD McAllister Cup.
The Haz-Decs Division side received a 132 positive handicap start from Olympic Trophies Division champions Christleton.
Christleton got off to a good start with Barry Davis beating Paul Temple by a large difference of 75.
Out of form Pete Sheppard could not continue Christleton’s success however and he suffered at the hands of Keith Osborne who did not miss a pot and ran out an 80-point winner.
This huge victory put Saviours 137 ahead. Chase Kirwin beat Paul Bradley by six and Joey Wynne had a good frame to beat Steve Proctor by 41.
Starting the last two frames, Christleton were 90 behind. Finn Gallagher, Christleton’s promising young gun, won his frame by 34 leaving Wayne Amey needing a clear 56-point margin to take the trophy.
He was 53 in front against Dennis Morris when he was in a good position to pot the green in the middle to set up a simple finish.
Unfortunately he missed the green, Dennis stepped to the table, kept his cool and potted the green, brown, blue and pink for a hard-fought triumph. Skipper Derek Osborne was delighted with his side’s spirit in the match as they took the silverware home.
Chester’s Neal Jones and Alex Taubman denied Widnes duo Andrew Housley and Steve Rawlinson to win the Merseyside Pairs final at Liverpool Academy in Aintree.
