Angling: Double joy for Wendy

WENDY Locker celebrated a double victory after taking both the Tuesday Rovers AC match and the Chester Tackle Locker silver fish-only match.

The Rovers match, at Hampton Springs Fishery, saw her drawn on the rock pool where she caught 34-12-0 of carp, beating Neil Patterson with 24-4-0 and Mark Pleavin with 23-4-0.

The silver fish-only match on Saturday saw Wendy return to Hampton Springs, this time to fish the Alice pool. She won again, with skimmers weighing 28-12-0. Craig Herring took just 25-0-0 for second and Mark Pleavin was third with 24-12-0.

The Trout Cup went to Steve Antrobus this year at Cheshire Fishery. He won the Mickle Trafford AC event with a brace of rainbows weighing 4-14-0, both taken to an orange fritz. Dave Reed followed with similar for 4-5-0 and Richard Roberts was third with 2-9-0.

Billy Bristow seized the top spot in the Manley AC match on Mouldsworth Lake. A carp haul weighing 12-4-0 was enough to beat Eddie Day with roach and rudd for 8-4-0 and Paul Shinning with 7-2-0.

After weeks of weather-affected fishing, sport improved for the Grosvenor Estates AC anglers as they held a pike match on the Serpentine at Eaton Hall. Keith Davies tipped the scales with 10-1-0, followed by Dave Huxley with 8-1-0 and Ben Pridding with 6-14-0.

Steve Norman was the front-runner in Airbus AC’s match at Patshal Park Fishery.

A mixed 25-4-0 gave him the edge over Jason Rogers who had a similar haul for 18-7-0, and Dave Blackwell with 17-2-0.

Steve Openshaw stood out in Lingmere Fishery’s Thursday open match. A mixed catch of 54-0-0 meant he beat Dave Woodworth with 32-0-0 and James DeClouet with carp for 28-0-0.

The Saturday match saw Woodworth step up and take first with 36-8-0 of carp, seeing off Geoff Grantham with 15-12-0 and Phil Roberts with 13-8-0.

There were just two weighers in the Helsby Sports and Social Club AC match at the BICC pools. Mike Shuttleworth won with 20-5-0 of bream, Steve Furfie was second with 4-7-0 of small roach and skimmers.

Steve Barwise led the field in the Saturday open match at Hampton Springs Fishery. Drawn on the long island pool, he took a carp-based 53-12-0, easily quashing the challenge of Gary Brislen’s 36-8-0 and Gary Tolley’s 36-4-0.

The Sunday match belonged to Phil Barwell, who hit the rock pool and was rewarded with 48-10-0 of carp. Keith Beam came closest to him with 26-4-0 and Phil Davies was not far behind that with 24-8-0.
