Angling: Bithell’s the best on River Dee

THE Holt and Farndon AC match on the River Dee at Holt saw some impressive weights.

It was won by Dave Bithell with chub and dace for 58-0-0, beating Reg Williams with the same for 23-0-0 and Dave Jones with 18-8-0.

Rake and Pikel AC’s match on the marina length of the River Weaver yielded only one weigher, Dave Spencer, with 3-8-0 of roach.

Mark Pleavin was top rod in the Saturday open match on the rock pool at Hampton Springs Fishery. A carp-based 14-8-0 put him ahead of Keith Bean on 12-8-0 and John Heald with 11-0-0.

The Sunday match at Hampton Springs went to Gary Vincent with carp and chub weighing 29-2-0 taken to sweetcorn, while Gregg Roberts had 25-14-0 and Rob Denny 14-14-0.

Pleavin picked up a second win, in Chester Tackle Locker’s silver-fish-only match at Hampton Springs Fishery. With maggot below a waggler, he took roach and chub weighing 27-14-0, enough to see off Gary Whalley with 17-0-0 and Stuart Davies with 16-14-0.
