FRODSHAM’S Martin Flett didn’t stand on ceremony as he qualified at the first opportunity for the BDFPA British Championships next July.
The powerlifter set a new British record in the process, lifting 160kg (352lb) without any supportive equipment at a competition in Bradford.
Flett said: “I wanted to get qualification out of the way so that I could focus on other championship events in the spring.
“I have also been working hard with a new training system and wanted to break my own British record before the end of the year.
“It was a great way to end it by finally breaking through the 350lb barrier under competition conditions.”
