Gregg hooks winner with carp bonanza

GREGG Roberts's mammoth catch won him the Tuesday Rovers AC match on the long pool at Hampton Springs Fishery.

His carp-based 101-2-0 was miles better than Shaun Sandham's 60-4-0 and Phil Hardman's 49-14-0.

Cheshire Police AC's match on Meadow View Fishery's lark pool went to Alan Roberts with 79-0-0 of carp. He was followed by John Booth with 68-0-0 and Mark Greasley with 59-4-0.

Ian Roberts topped the Thursday evening Tarporley AA match on Little Budworth pool. A bream and carp mix made up a winning 32-4-0 with second place going to David Davenport (19-11-0) and third to Oliver Holman (6-12-0).

Chris Hannagan claimed victory in the Wednesday match at Tarvin Sands Fishery when he netted a mixed 30-10-0. Geoff Dentith was a close second with 30-8-0 and Richard Birkett third with 18-0-0.

Tarvin Sands' Saturday match went to Birkett with a mixed 28-12-0, more than Gary Tolley with 27-12-0 and Rolf Purviss with 21-0-0.

Steve Balsom was top rod in the Thursday match at Lingmere Fishery. He put carp and barbel on the scales weighing 88-10-0, dwarfing Steve Openshaw's 49-2-0 and Darren Stanton's 37-0-0.

Balsom finished third in Lingmere's Saturday match, however, with 58-6-0. Phil Ashdown reeled in the win with 75-6-0, Jamie Swain (59-7-0) followed up.

Peter Hodge edged the Royal Mail Chester AC match at Lingmere Fishery with a mixed 42-8-0. George Rothwell took the same for 42-0-0 and Paul Broadshaw had 33-0-0.

A 12-0-0 common carp helped Mike Burgess win the Saltney Social AC match at Hampton Springs Fishery.

His total came in at 26-8-0, beating Lee Fawcett's 23-10-0 and Ray Gillam's 15-8-0.

St Theresa's AC held their match on Blundells Fishery and 29-15-0 from Keith Potts was enough to win it, ahead of David Meaney with 23-4-0. Wayne Elliot and Brian Fields shared third, each bringing in 21-10-0.

Good sized carp decided the Malpas AS match final placings. Simon Coomber won with 22-12-0 thanks in part to a 5-6-0 carp. Alan Jones was next with 14-0-0 and third went to junior member Josh Patyata with a 7-12-0 carp helping him to 11-0-0.

Willaston AC's Saturday open match at Waverton on the Shropshire Union Canal was won by Matt Morris with bream and roach weighing 6-13-12, just beating Chris Buckley with 6-12-0 and Tony Churchill with 5-2-11.

On Sunday, there is a Willaston AC open match on the Shropshire Union Canal at Beeston. The draw will take place at the Shady Oak at 8.30am with a £10 all-in entry and a ban on bloodworm and joker. To book in call 0151 606 8315.
