Scottish rainbow shines for Derek

AIRBUS Flyfishers landed a respectable booty in the Rolls Royce Championship on Lake Menteith, near Stirling in Scotland.

With 30 teams competing, Airbus finished fifth.

Airbus's Derek Muff netted the biggest fish if the day - a 2-8-0 rainbow - for which he won a £190 fly reel.

Top weigher for Airbus was Leslie Rolf with a brace of rainbows weighing 4-8-0, earning him a fly-tying kit.

Second was the 3-8-0 of Brian Thomas, which meant he won a new fly rod.

Chris Homagon easily won the Wednesday match at Tarvin Sands Fishery with a 41-4-0 tench and bream catch that eclipsed Hadyn Messham's 24-8-0 and Richard Birkett's 23-4-0.

Tarvin Sands' Saturday match went to Mark Benson and his mixed 39-4-0, which beat John Davies's 28-0-0 and Alan Taylor's 15-12-0.

Grant Lewis took the honours in Wirral AC's match on the Meriden Canal at the Border Fishery.

His carp and barbel haul of 32-12-0 took him clear of Leigh Bennett with a mixed 26-4-0 and Andy Cook with 18-14-0 of barbel.

Mark Greasley won the day when Chester and Ellesmere Port Police AC visited Meadow View Fishery. An all-carp 87-0-0 was enough to win the match, with John Booth coming second with 79-0-0 and Alan Roberts third with 68-8-0.

The Tuesday Rovers AC match belonged to Alan Jones as he pulled 75-2-0 of carp out of the long island pool at Hampton Springs Fishery. Gregg Roberts managed only 74-14-0, leaving Paul Rose in third with 69-12-0.

Brian Stapleton was top rod in the Capenhurst Flyfishers match on Penycae Reservoir. His bag of three rainbows reached 6-2-0 and were taken to an emerger.

Graham Knox followed with three fish for 5-4-0 ahead of Dennis Green with three fish for 5-0-0.

Retired Professionals SAC travelled to Conwy to fish from the deck of the Conway Star.

Top rod was Alan Rodda with four skate weighing 10-0-0 taken to a mackerel strip. John Barker followed with a 7-0-0 skate and a 3-0-0 tub gurnard, with Martin Jones having the final say with a 2-3-0 tub gurnard.

Peter Ashton finished well clear in Upton AC's match at Heronbrook Fishery.

His carp haul weighed 36-0-0, beating Phil Hardman's 29-0-0 and Geoff Dentith's 25-0-0.

Peg 1 AC's match at Burton Mere Fishery's beech pool went to Jason Jones.

He ended the day an 8-10-0 carp to take his total catch to 30-8-0, beating Bob Edwards' 24-0-0 and Glyn Maddocks' 18-7-8.

David Mearney won when St Theresa's held their fixture at Leeswood Fishery with a mix of small carp and barbel weighing 12-5-0.

Wayne Elliot took 10-11-0 and Michael Powell 10-10-0.
