Flying start to season for Ruth

ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC raced to a string of good results in their first track and field meeting of the season at Colwyn Bay's Eirias Park.

Ruth Pritchard produced one of the highlights for the club in this first round of the Cheshire League, recording a new best long jump performance of 4.23m for victory in the U13 competition and Lauren Hunt claimed a new high jump best of 1.37m for second spot in the U15 girls' event.

Victories on the day were earned by Kristy Bell, Gemma Mayled, Aidan Stoakley, Hadyn Dodson, Lewis Dodson, Sarah Rowlands, Zarah Hodder, Kerry Riley, Jeremy Stothart, Karin Svensson, Andrew Stothart, James Callaghan, Carl Van Schie, and Helen Clowes. The U13 boys' team finished second on 126 points, the U13 girls' squad scored 113 points for second place the U11 boys finished second on 34 points while the U11 girls claimed second spot overall on 53.5 points.

A number of West Cheshire AC members represented the county at the National Sportshall Championships staged at Birmingham.

The U15 boys' squad consisting of Carl Van Schie, Keir Ferguson, Tim Wilderspin and Tom Price, finished seventh.

James Callaghan, Jeremy Wilderspin, Matthew Kenny, Sean Boyd, and Gareth Preston, helped Cheshire's U13 boys finish 10th at the event.
