Pietersen perishes after fightback

Kevin Pietersen fell three runs short of a century after repairing the damage to England's first innings of the Caribbean Test series.

Pietersen, who relinquished the England captaincy last month, was attempting to bring up a 16th Test hundred in spectacular style when he perished to left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn.

The 28-year-old began the over in spectacular style by hitting two fours and then a huge six but he fell in an attempt for glory when another big shot resulted in him spiralling the ball skywards.

Pietersen did not bother to wait around for confirmation of his fate, and had taken several strides back to the dressing room before wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin completed the catch.

That left England 180 for five, after Pietersen's successor as captain Andrew Strauss won the toss at Sabina Park.
