Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has a selection headache ahead of Carling Cup final, says midfielder Jordan Henderson

JORDAN HENDERSON believes Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has a major selection headache ahead of Sunday’s Carling Cup final.

The Reds thrashed Brighton 6-1 in the FA Cup on Sunday without either Daniel Agger or Craig Bellamy, who were rested due to minor injuries. Both are expected to be fit for this weekend’s showdown with Cardiff City.

Andy Carroll, Charlie Adam and Jamie Carragher all impressed after returning to the starting line up against Brighton, while the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez and Jay Spearing were left on the bench.

Midfielder Henderson expects training to be keenly contested this week as the battle for final places hots up.

“There are a lot of people who want to play in the final and some will be disappointed,” he said.

“Everyone will be training hard all week and we’re all desperate to get into the starting line up. It’s up to the manager to decide.

“It was a good performance against Brighton. It was important we came out and did it right.

“Brighton are a good team who played some good football. We had done our homework on them and knew what they were about.

“They made it difficult for us at first but once we got a couple of goals it was easier. We deserved the win.

“Everyone is full of confidence and hopefully we can take that into the final at Wembley next week.”

Dalglish expects both Agger and the Reds’ semi-final hero Bellamy to be available for selection after picking up knocks in training.

“There are no injuries from the game as far as we know but we had a couple on Friday and Saturday with Bellars and Daniel,” Dalglish said.

“We’ll just have to see how they are but they should be all right.”
