Liverpool FC have to be more clinical in front of goal, says Daniel Agger

DANIEL AGGER has urged Liverpool to sharpen up in front of goal – starting with the Boxing Day clash with lowly Blackburn Rovers at Anfield.

The Reds were left to rue a string of missed chances, including Charlie Adam’s penalty, in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Wigan.

The Danish defender said: “We went there for a win and didn’t get it so it’s frustrating.

“We had some big chances, the clearer chances, but we just aren’t finishing teams off. In the first 20 minutes we played really well. But when you aren’t scoring goals you aren’t winning games.

“The good thing about football is there is always another chance and we have to be more clinical against Blackburn.”

Agger and his team-mates issued a joint statement on Wednesday expressing their “total support” for Luis Suarez after he was found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra.

Liverpool players also warmed up for the game at Wigan wearing T-shirts featuring Suarez’s image on the front and his name and number on the back.

Agger says Suarez has the backing of the entire squad as he battles to clear his name but insists the focus remains on ensuring they secure a solid points haul over the festive schedule.

Agger added: “The squad is together 100%. It (support for Suarez) has never been in doubt.

“Of course it is second nature to back our friend but the most important thing is to win football games - that’s what we’re here for. We’re playing football and we don’t think about the other stuff.”
